It is a legal requirement
for all UK businesses to carry out a fire risk
assessment. Where a business employs
five or more people then this must be a documented risk
assessment.
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) order came into
place on October 1st 2006 and it replaced many previous
fire-safety acts. One of the major features of the new
legislation is the emphasis on the 'Responsible Person'

are a business owner or director then you can be assured
this title is describing you.
It is true that you can appoint 'competent persons' to
help you in your role and they too would then have a
degree of responsibility but the owner ultimately
carries the can.
It is perfectly acceptable to carry out your own risk
assessments however if you are not confident to do so or
